Superficial You
By Gina Cooper

You say you want to get to know me,
Yet there you are, pushing me away.
Fighting to keep from sinking,
You're drowning me now.
At first you gave me a glance,
Showing me the real you.
Now you look away as if not knowing me,
I see someone there in hiding,
Confused and scared
I try to reach out,
But everytime you slip farther away.
Only wanting a friendship,
Yet how can one exsist...
When your slamming the door in my face.
Now I hear only about the booze,
You only using it as your excuse.
Wanting me close by your side,
Then morning comes, you say it was all a lie.
Just blacked out, using the booze.
Killing the real you,
Creating a whole new superficial you.
I warned you of this summer,
Not wanting a repeat, of what the others did.
No, you're just like them.
Sad yes, but true
Yet it's hurting me still.
I need to know the real you,
I can't keep fighting this superficial you.
I'm beaten already, broken, and bruised.
Open the door, let me in again.
Please, don't let our friendship end.
